For many people, taking part in therapy can be a little scary because they are asked to take an honest look at themselves and step out of their comfort zones. However, I never ask clients to go too far too fast. : ) I make sure that clients feel safe and comfortable with me and have a good idea of how therapy works before delving deeply into any issues. My style is active and goal-oriented, yet patient meaning that I help clients achieve the best results in the shortest time possible proceeding at a pace that is comfortable to them. I feel privileged that clients share their stories with me and place their trust in me to help them.
Individual therapy services are provided to adults who experience problems such as:
- Anxiety (e.g., excessive worry; rumination; nervousness/uptight; “stressed-out”)
- Depression (e.g., sadness; helplessness/hopelessness; lack of interest in activities; moody/irritable)
- Relationship problems (e.g., conflict; dissatisfaction; feeling as if you don’t “measure up” to others)
- Adult Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (e.g., focusing/concentration problems; procrastination; disorganization; lack of follow through)
I primarily provide telehealth therapy services to adults nationwide using a secure videoconferencing platform. Check out the sample distance counseling sessions with a video app:
- Addressing concerns about online/telehealth therapy:
- Mock distance therapy session with a college student:
“What?! Telehealth?! I don’t want anything to do with that!”
When some clients hear that I offer telehealth (i.e., online) services they say things like, “Oh, I’d never want to do that. It’s just not the same as talking to someone in person” or “I wouldn’t feel comfortable talking to someone about my problems online.” My response is simple:
“Just try it once and see what you think. You may be surprised!”
The majority of clients find that they actually like telehealth therapy because it’s convenient, less time consuming and they can truly “connect” with me in deep and meaningful ways. However, you’ll never know unless you give yourself permission to try it. : )
