Learning Along the Journey:

* Suggestions to prepare for private practice:

* Excitement and fear are common emotions as a result of going out on your own in private practice.

* Cindy is a school-based therapist who is starting off providing private practice services on Saturdays with couples or individuals who want to work on relationship issues.

* Networking in your community is important to generate referrals for your private practice. Cindy meets with a therapist group on a monthly basis for this purpose. Your website and blog is also important so clients can learn about you.

* Challenges – it’s common to experience doubts about making a go of private practice, but telling yourself that, “You can do this. It will work out” is helpful. Knowing that there will be ups and downs in private practice is important to understand.

* Words of wisdom – expect that you might feel like giving up on your journey into private practice. “I won’t be good enough” is a thought that might go through your head. Don’t give up because it will get better!
